John Denis Claims Ivy League Player of the Week Honors
5-point performance earns senior second career nod

IVY LEAGUE RELEASE
PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men’s soccer senior John Denis was named Ivy League Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Denis took part in all three goals to lead Columbia (3-3-2, 1-0-0 Ivy) to an Ivy League-opening victory over Brown on Saturday. The Yorktown Heights native put the Lions on the board in the 12th minute before assisting Matthew Swain’s first goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game heading into halftime. Despite the Bears coming back level the score in the second half, Denis won the match by converting a second chance off a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.

The five-point performance was the second of the season for Denis, who also recorded two goals and an assist two weeks prior in a 3-2 victory at UConn. Denis leads the Ivy League in total points (13) and shares the league lead in goals (5). He ranks among the NCAA’s top 50 in total points, points per game (1.63) and goals per game (0.63).

The weekly honor is the second of Denis’ career, last being named Ivy Player of the Week Sept. 10, 2018. Denis is the second Lion this season to earn one of the league’s weekly awards. First-year Michael Collodi was named Rookie of the Week last Monday.
